Perhaps you've heard of baby sign language, but have you considered the benefits?
When your child is feeling tired, hungry, or sad, and they cry, fuss, or wail...
When your child is in pain, and you don't know what is bothering them...
When your child points and gurgles, and is simply adorable, but you still don't know what they want...
Whey your child is feeling shy, or stressed, excited or silly, or any other way, and they have not yet developed verbal communication skills other than crying, wouldn't it be wonderful if they could sign to you?
Wouldn't it be a relief to go straight to knowing what's wrong and be able to respond to that need? To communicate with your child on a deeper level from a younger age?
This course will teach you a multitude of signs that you can use immediately to start signing with your infant, toddler, or kids of any age!
Babies can start signing long before speaking clearly, so why not give them (and yourself!) a way to communicate early??
Help minimize frustration when your little one is upset, by their ability to use the signs in this course to communicate needs, wants, and joys.
Continue to cherish your bond with your child as you have signed conversations at 9 or 10 months old that you likely would have waited months (or longer!) for them to be able to speak to have.
Get the whole family involved and experience the fun you can have using a signed language to communicate.
Many studies suggest that babies who learn to sign also experience psychological benefits, such as increased self-esteem and confidence. And contrary to some opinions, learning sign language early does not delay speech development in any way, and can actually increase the time when many babies learn to speak.

Your Instructor
Welcome! I grew up in a family that signed (my aunt and cousins are Deaf and my mom is hard-of-hearing), and I have been signing since I was 10 months old. After college I worked as an ASL interpreter for several years as I continued my graduate studies. After working hard to earn my ASL teaching credential and a master's degree in education, I have now been teaching ASL for over ten years to students who leave at the end of each year feeling confident and empowered in their signing skills.
My desire is for ASL to be far more common nationwide, most especially in families with deaf children. My hope is this course offers a unique way to learn ASL, and that together, with language and communication, we can create more accessible communities so that all of us, hearing and Deaf, can benefit from all the gifts we have to offer one another.
Learning ASL is fun, practical, and possible. Thank you for joining me. I'm honored to go through this course with you!
"I have worked with special needs kids for a long time now, and before I knew ASL it was difficult to communicate with some of the nonverbal kids. Once I learned ASL I was able to incorporate basic ASL into their learning plan. You have a big heart and a passion for teaching sign language, and you make learning fun. I absolutely recommend learning ASL from you."
